The Aim of the Association is to promote in New Zealand the learning, teaching and use of the Chinese language, as well as translating and interpreting from and into Chinese, in order to meet individual, community and national needs.The Association is established:
- To foster in New Zealand appropriate training in the skills of teaching the Chinese language and of translating and interpreting from and into Chinese.
- To promote the study of the Chinese Language and Culture in New Zealand
- To support language maintenance for all Chinese groups in New Zealand
- To work in cooperation with other organisations with similar objects, including academic organisations, educational institutions, educational policy qualifications and teacher registration organisations, teachers' organisations, Chinese community organisations, organisations for translators and Interpreters, New Zealand Government organisations, economic and trade organisations working in regions with Chinese-speaking populations, foreign economic trade, cultural and political bodies.

New members in the main cities and around the country are always welcome.Each of the branches holds a Chinese Speech Competition every year.
In addition the Wellington Branch holds:
A MONTHLY MANDARIN CORNER on the first Wednesday of every month, in the Wellington City Council Committee Room One at 101 Wakefield St. at 7.00 pm. People wanting to practise their Chinese language, or Chinese speakers wanting help with their English meet socially for a cup of tea and conversation.Also there is A MONTHLY CHINESE FEATURE FILM SHOW with English subtitles on the second Wednesday of each month, also in the Wellington City Council Committee Room One at 101 Wakefield St., at 7.30 pm, with tea and biscuits. Entry by gold coin donation.

A website for people who want to improve their English. Developed by a group of professional writers,performers and broadcasters who saw the need for good clear spoken English within the community where there are many new English speakers struggling with the language.
The magazine uses karaoke style, so that people can read and listen at the same time, which should clarify many pronunciation difficulties as well as providing information and entertainment.
The magazine is published on the internet, weekly. The average price for the five minute audio plus text is less than $2-00. A free sample can be downloaded which explains how the magazine works and how to get the best value from it. Enquiries are welcomed.
